Ghost Wars: A historical narrative needed to understand the war with Afghanistan

I recently completed the following book: Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001. It was written by Steve Coll. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction in 2004.

Why I recommend this book: I feel this book is important to read because whenever 9/11 is discussed, the conversation seems to end on the Iraq war. This is unfortunate, because I feel that Afghanistan and Iraq are two separate wars that should not be connected due to the individual complexity that each one presents. Anyone seeking to understand how Osama Bin Laden was able to come to power and become the most recognizable face of terrorism in the twenty first-century should read this book.
