Alta Experience

Well, the day came faster than I thought it would...Alta officially closed for the season today. Overall, I had a really positive experience working at a ski resort. The amount of snow I had to shovel was a little excessive (I think the last total for the year was over 600 inches, and with the lifts only capable of being raised a couple of feet, a lot of snow had to be moved) but bearable.

I really enjoyed the crew I worked with...a bit loud and rambunctious, with a lot of alcohol consumption, but overall really laid back and easy to get along with. My bosses were good to work for and treated me fairly.

Ultimately though, it was the snow that made it all worth it. I can't even begin to describe what it was like on those mornings when the sun would come out after a big dump the night before and I would float through the knee deep powder on my first run. I can't do the experience justice by trying to describe it in this space. Those of you who have the fever KNOW exactly what I am talking about.

So, unless unforseen circumstances arise (severe injury, vision loss, abnormal weight gain, pregnancy...wait, scratch the last one) I will be working at Alta Ski Resort next year. I actually am beginning a countdown to next November, which is when Alta opened for this past season. I am turning into a ski bum, I know.

The great part about all this is that, guess what everybody, my wife wants me to work there next year as well...SHE CAUGHT THE FEVER!!!!

p.s. based on our opening date this past season, I only have to wait 216 days until I will be back at Alta!!! Let the countdown begin!!
