To Kill a Mockingbird is the classic I chose to read for my summer to do list. I absolutely love this book. It has such a great story, funny scenes, terrific characters, awesome quotes, and the writing is fabulous! The book is basically about a southern family in Alabama, and the many experience and issues the members each face as they grow up. It is told from the perspective of Scout, a girl about the age six when the story begins. I love that the story is told from a child's perspective yet with adult insight. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:
"If you just learn a single trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it." - Atticus
"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do." - Atticus
"Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing." - Scout
So, if you are in need of a good book, check it out, its well worth your time.
