Understanding

So, I just finished a really good book that gives a great account of why the U.S. went into Iraq and what has been the impact of this invasion on the Iraqi people and U.S. soldiers. The book is title "Assassins Gate: America in Iraq" and is written by George Packer. Packer is a journalist for The New Yorker and based his book on several interviews he as conducted with key players and also his several visits to Iraq itself. The book is extremely eye opening and makes me frustrated that the White House administration went into the war without any sort of plan of how to get out. The current situation in Iraq is so complicated now, because post-war operations were handled so poorly by the Bush administration. I do hope that someday a democracy could rule in Iraq, but I fear that would take many years (decades) and a continuing occupation by American soldiers. It will be interesting to see how the next administration handles the issue considering its complexities. But if you want a intriguing read . . . I recommend it.

Sounds intense! Are you teaching yet?

Also the other day I was at my mom's house and I found a TON of notes and cards and stuff we wrote back and forth during high school. They were hilarious! Oh, the "troubles" we had as teenagers! :)
